Scardy Squirrel : MEIC’s 2012 Best Mobile App Winner

A team of 3 including myself competed against 8 other teams for Best Mobile App, at Mobile Experience Innovation Centre’s 2012 Mobile App Camp. Over a 3-day period, the goal was to create a prototype of a mobile app for a selected client. The team and I fell in love with “Scardy Squirrel,” an adorable character from a world recognized children’s book series. The client wanted a highly interactive book reading experience.

Result: Using UX theory and Agile, we won 1st place! “Best All-Around App” and “Best App based on Corus Entertainment Properties”. We designed a tablet version, full of games and interactivity for their upcoming holiday book.

Concert Sherpa iPhone App

As a Project Manager at Indusblue, I worked with a team to develop and launch an iOS app for Concert Sherpa. Using location services and a private API, the app allows the user to search for concerts near their current location or by date. The user can also find more information about the event and artist.

Salsa Dancing Studio Template

Keep Dancing Studio is a template designed and developed by myself (Jean Le). While browsing through a number of dance studio websites, I saw opportunity for innovative design and improved usability both for the user and the administrator. Currently, many sites ask users to sign up using the traditional e-mail or phone number, which can be cumbersome and can result to lost business.

Solution: For design, I wanted to accentuate the romance and sexiness of dancing, through the use of simple but powerful deep colours, beautiful photos, and smooth mouse-over animations. Obviously, this template is assuming a brand of maturity and sensual connection. As for improving efficiency, I created a database to record registered students for the class. Searching for available classes was also simple as well, using a search filter.

Solis Animation

Solis Animation’s owner designed a flash based website and wanted to convert the site into a mobile friendly site. I worked with the owner to analyze, recommend and build an improved layout for better user experience, while still maintaining the owner’s brand and feel of the site. The result was a web and mobile friendly website.

Drive Change with Kia Campaign

As a Project Manager at Indusblue, I worked with a developer to produce a website for Kia Canada’s Drive Change with Kia campaign. Written in Ruby on Rails, was a complex project that had a custom content management system, a variety of forms and unique pages using Facebook, YouTube, Google Map and Twitter’s API.

JP Chenet

JP Chenet wanted to improve their presence in the Canadian market and wanted to grow their fan base with young women who like to have a good time and drink wine! At MASH+MEDIA, I worked with a team of designers and developers to develop a number of campaigns, including two Facebook contest apps.

Ford: Drive 4 Ur School & Community

Ford approached MASH+MEDIA to improve the efficiency of their Drive 4 UR School and Drive 4 Ur Community Program by digitalizing a number of their processes. As a Digital Project Manager at MASH+MEDIA, I worked with a team to build a Rails based event management application.
Given three weeks to build and launch, we tackled this project using agile, and started the project by laying out the requirements. Wireframing, design and programming were completed simultaneously, while collaborating via GitHub.
